Discover Kodaiji Temple: Founded by Nene for Toyotomi Hideyoshi
Located in the heart of Higashiyama, Kodaiji Temple (高台寺) was established in 1606 by Kita-no-Mandokoro (familiarly known as Nene) in memory of her late husband, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of Japan’s most celebrated warlords.
Financially backed by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the temple was built on a grand scale, combining magnificent architecture, exquisitely designed Zen gardens, and rich historical significance.

Kodaiji is conveniently located within walking distance from Gion and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Strolling through the surrounding “Nene-no-michi” street is highly recommended.
