A Masterpiece of Zen: Sogenchi Garden at Tenryuji Temple
Tenryuji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Arashiyama, Kyoto, is home to the breathtaking “Sogenchi Garden.” Created over 700 years ago by the famous Zen master Muso Soseki, it was the very first site in Japan to be designated as a Special Historic Site and Special Place of Scenic Beauty.
The garden is renowned for its “borrowed scenery” (Shakkei) technique, seamlessly incorporating the surrounding Arashiyama and Mt. Atago into its landscape design around the central pond.

Located in the heart of Arashiyama, visiting early in the morning right after opening is highly recommended to beat the crowds.

- Admission (Garden Only): Adults / High School: ¥500 | Junior High / Elementary: ¥300 (Extra ¥300 for main buildings)
- Access: Right outside Keifuku Randen Line “Arashiyama Station”, or a 13-minute walk from JR Saga-Arashiyama Station.
