A Masterpiece of Samurai Elegance: Ninomaru Garden
Located within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Nijo Castle, “Ninomaru Garden” is a famous Japanese stroll garden designed to showcase the power and prestige of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Originally created under the first Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, it was later redesigned by the master landscape architect Kobori Enshu for an Imperial Visit.
Designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, the garden was strategically crafted to be viewed from three different directions inside the Ninomaru Palace halls.

- Dramatic Rock Arrangements: The central pond features Horai-jima (Penglai Island, representing paradise) flanked by Crane and Turtle islands. The massive, dynamic stone arrangements reflect the absolute authority of the Shogun.
- Seasonal Splendor: The garden offers incredible views year-round, from delicate cherry blossoms in spring to vibrant crimson maples in autumn reflecting off the pond’s surface.
